The UAE’s Digital Government Success Journey

The UAE began its digital transformation journey in 2003 with the launch of the eDirham and the eGovernment initiative, alongside the development of digital infrastructure and federal government portals.

Between 2013 and 2015, the journey progressed towards a national smart government training, the Federal Network (FedNet), the development of the Smart Government Guidelines and the Smart Government initiative.

In 2016–2017, digital enablers were further developed through the launch of the Government Service Bus (GSB), and the connection of federal entities to the Federal Network.

Between 2018 and 2020, the UAE launched the Digital Vault, the digital signature services, the Digital Signature Law and launched the national digital identity (UAE PASS).

In 2021, the journey continued with the launch of the API-First Guidelines, Digital Government Roadmap, the UAE Verify Platform and the UAE API Marketplace.
The Digital Government links this journey to the UAE’s ambition to achieve global excellence and become the world’s leading digital government by 2071, the UAE Centennial 2071.
