HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced the launch of the Doha Investment platform, a dedicated investment platform for managing and developing the domestic investment portfolio of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and accelerating long-term value creation within the Qatari economy.
In his opening remarks at the Qatar Economic Forum – Bloomberg, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) yesterday, HE said that the launch of the platform follows Qatar's successful efforts over the past three decades to build world-class infrastructure, institutions, and companies. He noted that the task now is to fully leverage the potential of these foundations and support the next phase of Qatar's economic development.
HE added that, through the platform, Qatar aims to expand private-sector participation and position the sector as a driver of economic growth. HE explained that the platform will support the country's leading companies, help startups grow, deepen capital markets, and attract international capital and expertise to contribute to these efforts.
HE emphasized that, over the next five years, Qatar is expected to launch new infrastructure projects worth approximately $38.5 billion, including public-private partnership projects, with the first tenders to be issued immediately. He added that, in parallel, separate projects in the real estate and hospitality sectors are expected to attract private investment worth up to $22.5 billion. HE noted that these include the Simaisma Beach project, which is expected to attract approximately $5.8 billion investment, with other projects to be announced in due course.
HE stressed that these projects and investment opportunities, combined, represent a value of more than $60 billion over five years.
